Reflections on Grace and Growth:

It’s been a while since I’ve written here, and life has been quite busy! But as I sit here in 2025, I’m filled with an overwhelming sense of gratitude for how the Lord has continued to bless my life in ways I don’t deserve. That’s one of the most incredible things about God’s love—it isn’t something we’ve earned, yet He continues to shower us with it. I can’t help but feel thankful for the grace He has shown me. Over the last month or so, there have been many experiences and lessons learned, so I’d like to take a moment to reflect.
First, I still miss Kenya dearly. I often find myself reminiscing about the amazing experiences I had there, the incredible people I met, and the ways God worked on me. The lessons I learned there continue to shape my life, and I’m so grateful for that journey. I returned home on December 8th and enjoyed a restful month of recharging. Christmas was just around the corner, and it was such a joy to be surrounded by family and friends. Having my older brothers home made the holiday season even more special.
When January rolled around, it was time to dive back into life. School began again, and I also started a new job—so 2025 kicked off with a lot of excitement. Life has been good, though aside from work and school, it’s been relatively quiet. And honestly, I’m okay with that!
I was truly blessed to have the opportunity to speak to my good friend Kevin McCravy’s football team at West Point High School. Kevin was a former football coach of mine, and playing for him was such a great experience. He’s still one of my favorite coaches to this day. Beyond being a coach, Kevin has become a great friend, and we’ve stayed in touch over the years. I have full confidence in how he’s leading his team, and it was a real blessing to see him again and catch up. It was a meaningful time, and I’m grateful for the chance to connect with both him and the players!
Last weekend, I had the privilege of being part of our D-NOW weekend. For those who aren’t familiar, it’s a student ministry retreat filled with worship, fellowship, and spiritual growth. I grew up attending D-NOW, so being able to lead it is always a blessing. However, I’ll admit I came into this weekend feeling drained and exhausted. I wasn’t sure if I had the same energy or passion I’d had in past years. But after the first small group session with the guys I was leading (shoutout to the 11th and 12th grade guys at FBC Decatur, as well as my good friends David Beavers and Bo Belcher who co-led with me), I was instantly encouraged and rejuvenated.
These guys were so intentional with one another, and with me. Whether we were laughing on the way to our host home or sharing tacos during a tornado warning, I felt a deep sense of fellowship. It was a weekend of laughter and meaningful conversations. But beyond that, it was about the students. The theme of the weekend was “Greater Love,” we talked about well, God’s perfect love! But in our small group, we talked about more than that. We had honest, open discussions about the challenges we face in our walk with the Lord, and how we can find peace knowing that Christ has overcome it all (John 16:33). Watching these students—many of them already in Christ—desire to grow deeper in their faith was incredibly encouraging. It was a weekend that reminded me of God’s goodness and the power of community.
So here we are, up to date! Life is good, but God is greater. I’m thankful for where He’s brought me, the people he’s allowed me to have in my corner, and excited for what He has in store ahead.
