God's Timing (feat. Blake Kersey):

Updated: May 25, 2024

If you're anything like me, you want everything done on your timeline. The funny thing about life is that almost never happens. God's timing is something I often struggle with, despite knowing that God's way is always better. I can often get caught in my flesh and bend to my timeline.

I have already introduced you to my friend Blake, who is taking charge of the blog today. Blake is one of my closest friends, he’s a mentor, and a brother in Christ. God has really blessed me with this friendship, as He has taught me many things through Blake.

So, I'm going to let him take it from here!

"I was thirty years old before I married Lindsey. Attending Samford University, a college with almost a 3 to 1 girls to guys ratio, I was certain I would be engaged before graduating. I had my life mapped out—married by 24 and children before 30. God had a different plan—and I am so thankful for His perfect plan.

While I was in seminary at Beeson Divinity School, I began dating Lindsey. We were friends long before we dated (something I highly recommend). I quickly realized that God was not late in connecting with me Lindsey, but instead, there were things He was teaching me, showing me, and refining in my life before marriage. I was 30 when we married and 33 before our first son was born. I would not have it any other way—God has allowed me to soak in the gift of these beautiful relationships—as husband and father. I treasure them even more because I waited and longed for both of them for years longer than I anticipated.

God’s timing is always perfect. Even when we do not see Him or feel Him, we can trust that He is always working behind the scenes.

This is a place where I have found rest—In and through all events (natural and human), I trust that God’s hidden hand is working out His divine purpose even when I do not understand or cannot comprehend.

I do not know what challenges you are facing today, but I do know that you can trust God. He is never in heaven wringing His hands saying, “Oh no, I did not know that was going to happen." Instead of being discouraged about your current circumstance, look for ways that you can be used by Him!"

I thank God for people like Blake. His story of walking in obedience to the Lord's timing is something from which I can definitely learn. It is my hope that you also have taken away something from this. God's way is always better!
